The best of Jamaican great houses, the Rose Hall Great House has a history because of the elements of an engaging work of fiction. Constructed in 1770 by John Palmer and his wife, it eventually became the home of their grandnephew, John Rose Palmer. Around 1820, Palmer married Annee, a beautiful but feisty English young lady.
Little did John know that his youthful wife possessed “black magic” abilities that would ultimately result in his death. During her rule as mistress of the sugar plantation, Annee did away with two additional husbands and numerous lovers. “The White Witch of Rose Hall” has intrigued generations, and even today, you will discover individuals who claim to see Annee passing through the Great House.
